Overview
Based on the comic book series written by Neil Gaiman and published by DC Comics, 'The Sandman' is a fantasy drama series that follows Morpheus, also known as Dream, one of the seven Endless. In 1916, Dream is captured during an occult ritual. After being imprisoned for 106 years, he escapes and sets out to restore order to his kingdom of the Dreaming. Throughout the series, Dream must navigate and resolve the chaos caused by his century-long absence, encountering a variety of characters from the mythical and the mundane realms in the process. The series intricately weaves together themes of dreams, nightmares, and stories influencing human lives, demonstrating the complexity and depth of both the human psyche and the mythological universe Dream belongs to.
Season Recaps
The first season of 'The Sandman' explores Dream's quest to reclaim his tools of power—his helm, ruby, and sand pouch—after escaping from captivity. This journey takes him across the human world, Hell, and beyond, as he encounters a pantheon of characters both antagonistic and sympathetic, including Lucifer Morningstar, John Dee, and Johanna Constantine. Dream's interactions with humans, dream creatures, and other immortals offer a profound exploration of the nature of dreams and their impact on reality. As the season progresses, Dream also confronts the consequences of his long absence on his own realm and companions.
